DSNY’s ReFashion Week NYC
ReFashion Week NYC is a first-of-its-kind celebration of sustainability and reuse in fashion in New York City.
Put together in collaboration with the NYC Department of Sanitation and the Foundation for New York’s Strongest, the week included events across the city such as a pop-up thrift market, clothing swaps, assorted workshops & panels and a ReFashion show, our annual runway show of thrifted styles and upcycled designs. The events took place from February 22-28th and focused on bringing together the fashion world, sustainability experts, the reuse industry, and residents in order to reduce textile waste.
ReFashion Week 2020 participants included Depop, Goodwill, VFILES, Housing Works, Heron Preston, Zero Waste Daniel, Eileen Fisher and many more!
NYC x Reuse
NYCxReuse is organized by the NYC Department of Sanitation’s donateNYC program. Over the course of two days, New York City’s first all-reuse event highlighted the many ways in which the City is shaped by materials reuse through a series of panels, an innovative reuse expo, a networking event, and a reuse community fest.
The Community Fest, a half-day showcase of the nonprofit reuse sector in NYC, featured 30 donateNYC Partner organizations that accepted donations, sold secondhand items, organized demos, and lead reuse activities. As part of the Community Fest DUALITY NYC organized a pop-up thrift shop with Housing Works that featured curated looks and live styling sessions by an amazing lineup of thrift stylists, many of whom worked magic at ReFashion Week 2019!
donateNYC National Thrift Shop Day Crawl
DUALTY NYC collaborated with donateNYC on their annual Gramercy Thrift Shop Crawl for National Thrift Shop Day on August 17th! Attendees of the crawl got access to special discounts, giveaways, and unique activations at the Housing Works, Goodwill, and Salvation Army stores in the Gramercy area.
Thrift Shop Day celebrates New York’s vibrant reuse sector while also highlighting the many benefits of buying and donating second-hand goods. Thrift and reuse stores not only save shoppers money—they also reduce waste, conserve resources, and help create "green" jobs. Buying secondhand from non-profit thrift stores also provides the added benefit of supporting those organizations’ important social-service missions.
